A Home Makeover with Antique Decor
This feature on CountryLiving.com shows how Mary Jane McCarty made over her Yardley, Pennsylvania home with heirlooms and collectibles. Here are some of the things she did. For the library-dining room, she raised the dropped ceiling, painted the dark molding white, and framed the pocket-door entryway with built-in shelves to showcase her books. For furnishing, she used different patterns with a palette limited to blue and white. Art Deco Chinese rugs were added to echo mismatched pillows and vintage chairs and collection of similarly hued English transferware. Bohemian ikat upholstery was used to loosen up a formal chair. In the living room, heavy drapes were replaced with white plantation shutters. Yellow pillows were put on a late-Victorian sofa McCarty inherited from her grandmother. The upstairs bathroom got a major renovation. A plastic shower and tub were removed and replaced with a claw-foot tub. The dark wainscoting was painted white, and the top half of the walls were painted a seafoam blue. The linoleum was torn out and replaced with the same angled tile style used in the kitchen. See the feature to view the photos and learn more.
